Innsbrook Foundation presents May Table Talks: Real Estate Symposium  

Real Estate is an ever-changing field in any year and this past year has been particularly unpredictable. While the Richmond region's median home prices boasted approximately $10,000 more than the national average, businesses were shuttering at record levels. At the same time, in the middle of the pandemic, Innsbrook welcomed new businesses and saw significant progress in mixed-use development. As the region grows due to more people more than ever choosing to relocate here, many of the companies they will work for are considering a hybrid of office and work-from-home scenarios. We will unpack these items and more as we decipher the converging factors reshaping how and where people live, work and play now and in the future. 

Our panel lineup includes the region's top leaders in commercial and residential real estate. Their combined talent, decades of experience, and breadth of knowledge will leave you with a greater understanding of why the Richmond region is ranked as one of the top 25 places in the U.S. to live, work, and play.

Highwoods Property

Vice President - Richmond Division

Jane serves as Richmond Division Vice President for Highwoods Properties, a publicly traded real estate investment trust specializing in office development. In this role, Jane is responsible for all aspects of the division including the marketing and leasing, wholly-owned and third-party property management, and development opportunities.

Jane has over 26 years of real estate experience. The majority of that time has been with Highwoods. She joined when the division opened in 1995, completing major build-to-suit and lease transactions with such high-profiled customers as Markel Insurance, The Martin Agency, Hamilton Beach, AECOM, and Virginia Urology. In 2019, she lead her team to win the GRACRE Real Estate Transaction Award.

Jane graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Business Administration, Real Estate Finance. She earned the CCIM designation in 2002, the SIOR designation in 2011, and her Managing Brokers License in 2018. She is the Past President of the Richmond CREW and GRACRE chapters. She is the current President of the Innsbrook Owners Association Board, serves on the Richmond Metro Transit Authority Board, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Va., and is a board member at The Steward School.

Managing Director – Leasing & Marketing

As a partner and Managing Director of Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners, Brian Witthoefft oversees all aspects of the leasing and marketing of the Company’s portfolio and sits on the Company’s Investment Committee. Since 2003, Brian has gained expertise and knowledge through multiple sectors of the commercial real estate industry, including third-party investment sales and brokerage with CB Richard Ellis, institutional experience in the public REIT sector with Liberty Property Trust, and private sector experience in development and acquisitions with the Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners. Brian’s investment and leasing transactional experience include over 750 transactions in excess of 7 million square feet. Brian is a graduate of James Madison University and is a licensed real estate broker in Virginia.

Matt Sugg

PRG Real Estate

Regional Director

Matt Sugg began his career at PRG Real Estate in Richmond, Virginia in 2007. PRG owns and manages over 10,000+ multifamily units nationally, with over 2,500 units being located in Richmond, VA. In the early stages of his career, Matt served in roles such as Property Manager, Senior Property Manager, and Regional Field Trainer. From 2014 to 2018, Matt held a Portfolio Manager role with The Franklin Johnston Group, and a Regional Director role with Greystar, where he was primarily responsible for new construction lease-ups and new business development. 

Since rejoining PRG in 2018, he has overseen operations at all the new developments and acquisitions in Richmond, Virginia. Matt received his B.S. in Marketing Management from Virginia Tech. He currently holds the Certified Apartment Manager credential (CAM), Certified Apartment Portfolio credential (CAPS) with the National Apartment Association, and the Certified Property Manager credential (CPM) with the Institute of Real Estate Management. He has held several leadership positions within the local and state apartment associations, including VAMA, IREM, and the Urban Land Institute, and is also a Board Member on the Innsbrook Foundation. Matt and his team have won numerous multifamily industry awards throughout his career. He was most recently awarded Corporate Employee of the Year in 2018 and 2020 with the Central Virginia Apartment Association. 

When Matt is not on a new construction site, you can find him going on adventures with his two boys, Holden and Jack, traveling the world, or trying out new restaurants.

Dan Kern

Virginia Housing

Business Development & Training Manager

Dan Kern is the Business Development & Training Manager for Virginia Housing. After a 23 year career in the mortgage industry as a loan originator and processor, Dan joined the Authority in 2016 for this newly created position. Drawing upon his product and sales knowledge as well as his industry contacts and passion for affordable housing, Dan is responsible for a variety of tasks including management of Virginia Housing’s Business Development Officer team lender training, new lender approvals, continuing education seminars offered in partnership with Realtor Associations throughout the state, product development and marketing, and improved internal and external process efficiencies. Dan is a native of Richmond and a graduate of the College of William & Mary.

Chris Layne

Blue Ridge Bank

Senior Vice President

Chris Layne is Senior Vice President and Richmond Metro Market President with Blue Ridge Bank. In this role, he is responsible for leading the region’s commercial banking team and developing business across the Richmond region. Chris works closely with both his internal and external networks in order to provide superior service to his clients. He also works closely with clients with assessing their financial needs to develop and deliver the best possible financial solutions to help them meet their financial goals.

Chris graduated from the University of La Verne with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and holds his M.B.A. from Averett University. He is also a graduate of the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking at The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

In addition to his work at Blue Ridge Bank, Chris faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force and currently serves as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. He routinely volunteers and does work with TEAM KRL, a non-profit organization he co-founded in his hometown of Huntington, West Virginia, that helps mentor both male and female youth from low-to-moderate income environments. Additionally, Chris currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Swift Creek YMCA, the Metropolitan Business League, and St. Joseph’s Villa, and regularly volunteers with several other non-profit organizations across the Richmond region. He previously served as a Board member for Capital Area Health Network and Junior Achievement of Central Virginia.
