Stollery Family

Peer Support Programs

Peer support is about building a relationship through shared experiences and acceptance. It helps people feel like they belong. With peer support, you can connect with others who have gone through similar situations.

A peer supporter is a person who has lived experience receiving care at the Stollery. They are trained to:

• Listen without judgement

• Share helpful strategies

• Support problem-solving

• Or simply be there to walk alongside you during tough times

Meet Our Peer Support Workers

Candace joins PFCC as a committed family peer support advocate, drawing on her lived experience and background in social work. Her connection to the Stollery is personal - her child received a pacemaker here in 2013, motivating her to give back. Candace brings compassion, insight, and a strong belief in the power of shared experience to support families across the hospital. Candace.Fehr@AHS.ca

Christa brings ten years of lived experience caring for her daughter Jordan, who was diagnosed at age four with a rare terminal neurodegenerative condition. She understands the emotional complexity and isolation that can come with raising a medically complex child. Finding someone who truly understood her journey became a pivotal source of support, and she is grateful for the opportunity to now offer that same understanding and connection to other families.
