Join us to enhance wildlife habitat in Sabercat Historical Park. This is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and to earn community service hours.

The neighbors have posted signs asking that hikers avoid parking in front of their homes. If parking seems scarce on Becado Place, find parking further away.

Park at Old Mission Park, Walking route from Old Mission Park to Becado Pl. eastern end: Walk north & east along paths to Pine St., then east along Pine St. On the north side of Pine Street, find the entrance to Sabercat Historical Park. Walk north until you reach the eastern end of Becado Place and find the City of Fremont vehicle.

Please use a restroom before you arrive. public restroom with running water is located at Old Mission Park, 3 minute drive or ~15 min walk away on Ibero Way off of Pine St.

FAQs

Who:

This volunteer event is for all ages. Volunteers under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Please ensure that you have registered the adult who will be accompanying the child, as well as the child.


If the child is a member of a group that has separate liability insurance coverage and policies that allow a particular adult leader accompanying the group to take responsibility for the children of this age (e.g., scoutmasters for Boy Scouts of America or Girl Scouts of America), then a ratio of at least one adult leader to 6 children under the age of 12 years is required.

Volunteer Tasks may include:

  • Watering transplanted native plants
  • Removing invasive plants
  • Refreshing plant basins
  • Creating, repairing, expanding, or removing browse protection cages
  • Planting or maintaining native plants
  • Removing litter
  • Removing fire ladder from the site
  • Sheet mulching

  • Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots   
  • Outdoor work clothes, long pants, socks, and a long-sleeved shirt
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • A reusable water bottle
  • For wet conditions: waterproof boots, raincoat / poncho, rain pants
  • Gloves and tools will be provided. If you bring your own, please label them.
  • face covering such as a disposable or reusable mask (we have some disposable masks on hand) - optional, but encouraged when in close proximity to other participants or when working with dusty materials like mulch


COVID-19 Safety:

  • While Covid-19 restrictions have been lifted in many locations around the state, the health and safety of our volunteers remain our top priority. Please do not attend the cleanup if you have recently tested positive for Covid-19 or are experiencing any symptoms of Covid.

Rain/ Poor Air Quality Plans: 

If rain is predicted bring rain gear. You will get an email the morning of the event if it is cancelled. Only thunder, lightning, heavy rain, or unhealthy air quality cancel the event.
