Ms. McClain's Class

Elementary PE - Jump Rope Unit

What are We Learning:

K-5th Grade:

The students will begin their Gymnastics unit. This unit will focus on balance, coordination, transferring weight, body control, and several other locomotor movements. At the end of the unit, the students will be graded on a holistic performance rubric that will assess these skills.

Ms. Kotschwar's Class

What are We Learning:

Fourth Grade:

Students worked on intervals of a 2nd and a 3rd this week and continued to perform their playing tests throughout the week. Students also learned about their composer of the month “Beethoven” and listened to several examples of Beethoven’s popular pieces. Next week students will be introduced to intervals of a 4th and a 5th and will learn a new playing position.


Our next playing test checkpoint will be Friday, September 1st. Students will have 6 playing tests they will need to complete by this date. If your student is behind they are welcome to come to tutorial after school. Please fill out the tutorial attendance form located on Google Classroom or follow this link. https://bit.ly/pianotutorialform23 Students will need their school email address to log in to Google Classroom. There will not be tutorial on Thursday, August 31, due to the home volleyball game.


Several students still do not have headphones or a 1-inch 3-ring binder which are both needed for piano studio. Please make sure your student brings these items to class.

What are We Learning:

Second Grade:

We will finish Unit 1. We will review definite and indefinite articles for test on Friday. Students will learn number words 1-40 and shapes. Study guide will be sent this Monday.

We will finish Unit 1 "La Escuela" and review for test on Thursday. Topics of study: Feminine and masculine nouns, plural form, colors, shapes, numbers 1-30 and verbs related to classroom routines. Study guide going home on Monday.

Ms. Truax's Class

What are We Learning:

Kindergarten:

We will be creating watercolor self portraits in art class this week!


First Grade:

We will be finishing up our collage projects and starting our unit on form! Lots of fun sculpture projects ahead!


Fifth Grade:

We will be continuing our textile unit! Finishing our weavings and starting a collaborative project!

MUSIC

Ms. Allen's Class

What are We Learning:

Second Grade:

Second grader will begin their module on the Voice where they will learn about the vocal and breathing mechanism, including the diaphragm and vocal folds. Students will be introduced the treble clef staff and will be label the pitches on the staff. Also in this module, students will recognize do-mi-sol aurally and then on the treble clef. Finally, students will define Home Tone and demonstrate by finding it and singing it in a song.


Third Grade:

This week, third graders will begin their module on The Classical Period in music. In addition to learning about the music, composers and instrumentation of this time period, students will recognize that the Classical period (1750-1820) was characterized by order, balance, and simplicity in music, art, fashion, and architecture.
