9:00 - 10:00 AM Organizational Ethics and the Role of Accountants in the Post-Pandemic World |
|
| Organizational ethics -- the capacity of an organization to manage itself responsibly and fulfil obligations to its stakeholders – is one aspect of risk culture that ACCA delved into in its recent report, Risk culture: building resilience and seizing opportunities. Accountants have a critical role to play in this by creating appropriate governance practices and guaranteeing trust in them. Additionally, accountants in all their different positions need to engage in the hard to manage issues and reflect on how they can help solve some of the big questions that the world is struggling with today, including matters around the social and economic implications of climate change. The sheer speed and interconnectedness of risks require more clarification of roles and responsibilities. How we govern the use of generative AI, for instance, poses questions of responsibility and accountability from a legal and ethical perspective. If something goes wrong, who will be held to account and how do we manage that? These are difficult questions that require considerable thought and discussion across all levels of the organization. How can our profession steer their organizations in the right direction? That is the question for discussion in this session.
