BRIDGING MENTAL HEALTH AND PUBLIC HEALTH DURING COVID-19: A TOWN HALL


The COVID-19 Pandemic has placed both mental health and public health workers on the front lines in an array of on-going stressful situations. As a result, mental health and public health agencies have had to innovate and adapt practices to support and care for their workforce and the populations they serve. This town hall event will feature mental health and public health agency representatives sharing insight on ways they have addressed COVID-19 while also supporting staff, the value of Mental Health-Public Health partnerships, and the related challenges they anticipate during the first half of 2021.

Feds Announce Open Enrollment

President Biden issued an Executive Order that re-opens enrollment of the Affordable Care Act marketplaces. While the order pertains to states that use the federal exchange (healthcare.gov), Colorado’s exchange (Connect for Health Colorado) will mirror the order by also re-opening enrollment. In fact, Coloradans without health insurance will be able to enroll in coverage through ConnectforHealthCO.com between Feb. 8 - May 15, 2021. This special enrollment period is for people who are without health insurance and begins a week earlier than the federal exchange. Funding Opportunity: Advancing Team-based Care through Technical Assistance

The Colorado Health Foundation has a funding opportunity that will support safety net clinics in receiving technical assistance (TA) to improve their clinical and business capacity so they can offer high-quality, team-based comprehensive primary care. The Foundation will fund clinics up to $125,000 over the two-year period to support clinic staff participation in the funding opportunity and any education and travel-related expenses associated with implementing team-based care. Click here for the overview and criteria information. Participate in a Youth Suicide Research Study

Partners For Children's Mental Health is looking for primary care providers who see patients ages 10-24 to participate in a 12 month research study. The purpose is to understand the impact and providers' perspectives on implementing a youth suicide care pathway in the primary care setting. Click here for the flyer with more information.

SAMHSA has announced several grant funding opportunities for fiscal year 2021. The application deadline for most of the opportunities listed is in February. Click here for the list and more detailed information.


Billing and Rendering NPI Required on Claim Submissions

Beacon Health Options is excited to announce that we are enhancing our claims processing system. In an effort to reduce the need to adjust or correct claims periodically, the following adjustment is being made to our claims documentation requirements to enhance our claims processing accuracy.

Effective March 1st, 2021:

  • Providers must include both the billing and the rendering NPI numbers in the appropriate boxes on all HCFA 1500 (professional) paper claim submissions and/or the 837-p equivalent.
  • Solo practitioners must submit their NPI in both the billing and rendering fields.
  • Group and facility providers must submit the billing NPI as well as the rendering NPI numbers in the appropriate fields. Please note, for group and facility providers, the billing NPI is different and distinct from the rendering NPI.

As of 3/1/21, claims that are missing either NPI number will be denied if received on paper or rejected if received electronically as the claim will not meet our enhanced claims management criteria. Providers should resubmit denied or rejected claims with appropriate NPI numbers within applicable timeframes for processing.

Extension of the Public Health Emergency

The Department of Health and Human Services has formally extended the Public Health Emergency (PHE). The PHE can be extended for up to 90 days at a time. This extension starts January 21, 2021, and would end, unless extended again, on April 20, 2021. Updates will be published via the Public Health Emergency Planning web page.

You can now download an app to help fight COVID-19, slow it's spread, and protect yourself and your loved ones. CO Exposure Notifications will quickly notify you if you've likely been exposed to the virus, allowing you to seek timely medical attention and take action to protect others.

Colorado Vaccine Equity Taskforce

The Colorado Vaccine Equity Taskforce exists to ensure that all groups – regardless of race, ethnicity, ability and other factors – have all the facts to make informed decisions about the safety of vaccines for their families, and to hold leaders accountable for ensuring access to these vaccines for all.

COVID Vaccine Communication Toolkit

The CDC has designed a toolkit to help community based organizations educate their communities about the vaccine, raise awareness about the benefits of the vaccine and address common questions and concerns. The Colorado Department of Higher Education and the Colorado Equity Champions Coalition have developed a Report on Educational Equity: CREATING A COLORADO FOR ALL



The work presented within this report supports Colorado's goal to reach 66% education attainment by 2025 through the implementation of strategies aimed at erasing equity gaps. The report outlines recommendations for a brighter future by building on our accomplishments and redirecting efforts to make the necessary change to better support students.
