CLIHTF's Mission The mission of the Chicago Low-Income Housing Trust Fund (CLIHTF) is to meet the permanent housing needs of very low-income Chicagoans. CLIHTF is the largest city-funded rental assistance program in the nation, providing rental subsidies in 55 of Chicago's 77 community areas.
For too many families, market rents are expensive and, for some, more than their household income. Nationally, more than three-quarters of households that earn less than $35,000 a year pay more than a third of their monthly income in rent. A CLIHTF rental subsidy supports these households by paying a portion of their rent directly to their landlord, so that they don't spend more than a third of their income on housing. |
