Yoga therapy for chronic pelvic pain combines traditional yoga practices with modern pain science to help treat and manage persistent pain so you can live well again.
Pain is a fundamental, and essential, aspect of our well-being. Its significance cannot be overstated. Pain is a real experience, even when medical professionals cannot identify its source or assign a specific diagnosis to your condition.
Most importantly, pain is not an unchanging, fixed state, regardless of how long you have lived with it. For a long time, there was a prevailing belief that pain equated to physical damage. However, modern science has revealed that this notion is not necessarily accurate, particularly when dealing with chronic pain. It is entirely possible to experience intense pain without any physical damage, and, conversely, one can have significant physical damage with minimal or no associated pain.
Pain has everything to do with all of YOU – body, mind, breath, emotions, present, past and future You. It is a sophisticated protective mechanism. When you (and your nervous system) interpret a dangerous situation for your wellbeing, the pain alarm will sound to get your attention prompting you to stop and change your behaviour. Pain is all about safety and is a healthy protective mechanism. Except when that mechanism becomes faulty.
In this 6-week yoga therapy series for Chronic Pelvic Pain, we will explore and gain a comprehensive understanding of the control we possess in reshaping and managing pain. The course is designed to provide direct experience in influencing and transforming pain through pain education, mindful practices, and the application of embodied yoga philosophy.
