| Awakening to our Shared Humanity: A Journey Toward Peace
What if peace begins when we stop seeing one another as strangers?
This September, Unity of Roanoke Valley invites you into a powerful three-part Peace Initiative inspired by Valerie Kaur’s transformative book, See No Stranger: A Memoir and Manifesto of Revolutionary Love.
Our journey begins on Sunday, September 13th, with a special talk series exploring the practice of Revolutionary Love—learning to see the humanity in ourselves, in those around us, and even in those with whom we deeply disagree. Together, we’ll explore how love can become more than an idea—it can become a way of living that transforms relationships, communities, and the world.
And the journey doesn't end there.
Following the talk series, we’ll continue the conversation through a shared film experience. Click here for a list of film discussion questions (print copies available in the Fellowship Hall). We invite you to watch the film, The Best of Enemies, on your own schedule from home before Sunday, October 4th, while reflecting on those questions. You can also gather with friends and watch it at either Andy Fisher's home on September 28th @ 6:30 pm or at Kathy Murphy-Stephenson's home on October 2nd @ 2:00 pm. Sign up in the Fellowship Hall @ URV. Then we will gather to discuss the film and discussion questions on Sunday, October 4th, after the 11:00 am service. The film is based on the book The Best of Enemies: Race and Redemption in the New South by Osha Gray Davidson.
Finally, we’ll come together for a culminating workshop on Saturday, October 24th, where we will move from inspiration to practice and discover how each of us can become a more intentional presence for peace.
Three experiences. One journey. The invitation: To become a people who choose love over fear, connection over division, and peace over separation.
Come be part of the journey. Because no one is a stranger when we learn to see with the eyes of love.
