PEACE THROUGH ART EXHIBIT INSTALLED AT MORGA LIBRARY

By: Brad McCullough

A colorful new display of student-created “Peace Pickets” is now on exhibit at the Moraga Library as part of Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary’s Peace Through Art initiative.

The painted wooden pickets were created by Lamorinda middle school students in response to a simple but powerful question: What does peace look like to you? Their answers include images of hope, kindness, friendship, nature, unity, faith, imagination, and community.

The Moraga Library installation is part of a rotating public exhibit designed to share the students’ artwork with the broader community. The display brings together dozens of individual student voices in a highly visible setting, reminding visitors that peace can be expressed in many ways: through words, symbols, color, and creativity.

Peace Through Art encourages young people to reflect on peace and gives the community an opportunity to see that reflection through their eyes. Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary thanks the participating students, schools, families, and the Moraga Library for helping make this exhibit possible.

The Peace Pickets will remain at the Moraga Library through the end of June before moving to another community location.
