Celebrating Black History Month through the written word

~Gene Fougner

Emmanuel is lucky to have Nancy Johnson exploring our congregation and making meaningful contributions to our spiritual life here. Nancy is a good source for us to learn to understand more about racial issues, having raised a multi-cultural family. She sent in a great list of good reads for Black History Month and Francie added a few too. Nancy also sent a great definition of woke: “awakened to the needs of others. To be well informed, thoughtful, compassionate, humble and kind. Eager to make the world a better place for all people.”

Sounds exactly like our call as an ELCA congregation and the purpose of our Inclusivity Team.

Won’t it be wonderful when Black History and Native American History and Jewish History and all American History is taught from one book. Just U.S. History.

~Maya Angelou
