How do we determine the blend?

Dutchman's is always a multi-vintage blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Tannat. The specific quantities of the blend varies among releases. Our first three releases were determined by popular vote through blind tasting trials. For each trial, we invited a selection of our customers, who enjoy red wine, to participate. The fourth and fifth releases were determined in house.

Why is this wine named Dutchman's Creek?

Because blends contain multiple grape varieties, they are typically given fanciful names. If any one of the grape varieties used in this wine comprised 75% or more of the blend, we could call the wine by that variety name.

Dutchman’s Creek Blend is named after the creek that runs along the south end of our property.  It is believed the creek's name dates back to the mid-1700s and the original German settlers of Lovettsville, which was then known as "The German Settlement". The name is believed to have been anglicized from "Deutschman's Creek" or "German Man's Creek" to Dutchman's Creek.
