Senior Parent Resources

Hey Parents!

NOW is a great time to start thinking about the NEXT school year! Below you'll find information that will be important for your student to continue their education beyond high school, including testing dates and scholarship opportunities.

If you have questions, please send them to collegeage@firstchurchba.org

Financial Aid Information

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA is the first step in the financial aid process. You use the FAFSA form to apply for federal student aid, such as grants, work-study, and loans. In addition, most states and colleges use information from the FAFSA form to award nonfederal aid. Even if you don't think you will qualify for the free money, file your FAFSA because some schools will NOT award you their scholarships without a FAFSA on file!

The redesigned FAFSA application will be available to all students on December 1, 2024 for the 2025-2026 school year. You should update your FAFSA application EACH YEAR your student is enrolled in trade school or post secondary education. Apply free online at fafsa.gov.

Get a head start and create your FAFSA account/login id now!

**Apply as soon as possible! The aid money is awarded "first come, first served."

Terms to Know When Applying to Colleges/Universities

• Early Decision applications require an October or November application submission deadline (typically November 1), and you will know your acceptance by December or January. This is a binding decision. If you are admitted, you are committed to attending that school. You will enroll at the school and decline all acceptances to other universities.

• Early Action applications are nonbinding, but you get your notification of acceptance from the college early, and you do not need to commit to a college until the May 1 deadline.

• A Priority Date is when a college sets a date that applications are considered ahead of the regular decision date.

• Regular Decision is the most common of deadlines for colleges (usually in January or February) and your student should receive a response in March or April.

National Decision Day is May 1! This is the day most colleges/universities require you to make a decision about where you will attend and require you place a deposit.
