HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE

INDIANA DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE

Unless the collision repair industry speaks up for themselves and their customers, the Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI) is hard pressed to take any corrective actions with insurance companies not paying invoices for required operations. Should you have encountered these types of unfair claims practices, the IABA encourages you to file a formal complaint.

The IABA Government Relations Committee has developed resources to help shop owners file a complaint with the IDOL. Click the name of document below to download:

  1. IABA 3rd Party DOI Complaint form: Allows you to take control of the complaint process for your customer.
  2. IABA Sample Complaint Word Document: An easy-to-use template that points out the specific “Unfair Claim Settlement Practice” that the concerning insurance company has violated. Just fill out the information in red and include with your complaint to the IDOI.
  3. Unfair Claim Settlement Practices: This document identifies 16 claims practices deemed unfair in the state of Indiana. Knowledge of, and the ability to reference this when submitting complaints will aid in the complaint process.
  4. Unfair Claim Settlement Cheat SheetA document to help you utilize the “Unfair Claim Settlement Practices” sheet.

Follow the 3 steps below to file a complaint with the IDOI:

  1. Have the customer sign the “IABA 3rd Party DOI Complaint form”.
  2. Fill out the Complaint Form available through the link:IDOI: Provider Complaint Form
  3. Submit it and the forms we have provided to the IDOI for review. Remember to keep copies of all documents in a file for review with the IDOI representative.
