| Dear service provider partners, As you may be aware, the Los Angeles Housing Assessment Tool (LA-HAT), the new CES triage tool for adults, will fully replace the VI-SPDAT/CES Survey for Adults on July 1, 2026. Effective June 30, 2026, the VI-SPDAT will no longer be available for new completions in HMIS and DV comparable databases, and all programs must transition to only administering the LA-HAT for adults. This means all providers who currently administer the VI-SPDAT will need to complete the LA-HAT training before June 30, 2026. You can register for the full-day virtual training through LAHSA’s Centralized Training Academy here. In-person trainings are scheduled for the following dates in May:
- Monday, May 18, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the LA County Department of Mental Health (Room 17G25, 510 S Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90020). Learn more and register.
- Wednesday, May 27, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the LA County Agricultural Weights and measures Department (Butterfly Room, 12300 Lower Azusa Road, Arcadia, CA 91106). Learn more and register.
Please note:
- The LA-HAT will only be implemented in the Single Adult system. The VI-FSPDAT and the Next Step Tool will continue to be used in the family and youth systems, respectively.
- People who have already been assessed through the VI-SPDAT and are awaiting permanent housing placement do not need to be reassessed using LA-HAT at this time. Anyone who has a VI-SPDAT on file will be considered for permanent supportive housing resources if their score meets the minimum threshold.
