Meet the Experts

Kevin Ward PhD

Director of R&D, Biopharma Group

Kevin Ward entered the world of freeze-drying in 1993 when he embarked on a PhD in lyophilisation of proteins and liposomes. After working in the pharmaceutical industry and vaccine development, he joined Biopharma Group in 2000. As R&D Director, Kevin has built up a team of dedicated freeze-drying scientists, worked on over 4000+ projects for more than 500 client companies across the globe, developed 3 analytical instruments, run more than 400 training courses, and successfully secured funding for numerous research projects.

Alastair Dent FRSC

Owner, Fleet Bioprocessing

Alastair has worked in the field of antibody chemistry for over 40 years, working for Amersham International, Kodak and Johnson & Johnson before founding Fleet Bioprocessing Ltd. in 2000 as a CDMO specialising in this field. He has written major reference works on bioconjugation as well as numerous published articles on this and related subjects. As well as being Fleet’s Managing Director, he regularly acts as a process 4development consultant and is a former chair of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Analytical Biosciences Group.

Chris Blencowe MChem PhD MRSC

Chemistry Director, Fleet Bioprocessing

Chris has 18 years of (bio)conjugation experience, stemming from a Chemistry PhD at Reading, where he invented a novel pH-sensitive self-immolative linker for controlled release applications. He has published several articles in this field including a featured review for Polymer Chemistry. Previously he worked at Unilever on various controlled release technologies and in 2013 joined Fleet Bioprocessing Ltd, applying this experience to bioconjugation and the development of antibody-drug conjugates, currently acting as Fleet’s Chemistry Director since 2020.
