Mental Health and Intervention for Intergenerational Complex Trauma

(5 hrs)

 


Participants will: 


1.    Learn the effect of complex trauma and PTSD on the brain.

2.    Address intergenerational complex trauma due to residential schools and the Sixties Scoop, etc.

3.    Learn skills to heal interpersonal relationships due to complex trauma.

4.    Learn skills to manage mental health and other psychological effects due to complex trauma.

5.    Learn skills for anger management and emotional regulation. 

6.    Discuss addiction and explore healthy strategies to manage complex trauma. 

7.    Learn skills to be present and foster peaceful living.

The Warrior Within: Intervention for Child Abuse & Trauma

(3 hrs)



Participants will: 



1.    Learn effects and interventions for Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). 

2.    Learn to identify signs of PTSD in children and teens. 

3.    Learn skills to help children and teens cope and recover from toxic stress. 

4.    Learn strategies to help children and teens reconnect fully to their bodies after trauma.

5.    Learn skills to help children and teens address impact of mental health due to trauma.

Beyond Sexual Trauma: Awareness, Intervention and Recovery

(5 hrs)


Participants will:

 

1.    Gain understanding of sexual trauma.

2.    Learn the basics of psychophysiology and neuroscience of the traumatized brain.

3.    Gain understanding of the victim vs survival mentality and how to create and support change with a strength based-perspective.

4.    Learn how mentors and workers can assist those suffering from sexual trauma.

5.    Learn to process the psychological effects due to past incidents, such as residential schools and the Sixties Scoop, etc.

6.    Learn about the lack of resources on reserves and where to get the required supports.

7.    Learn strategies for holistic intervention and recovery from sexual trauma and other innovative techniques to mobilize clients.

Who are these Workshops for?

 

The workshops are for everyone, including parents, so they can learn to support and become an ally for their children/teenagers who are survivors of sexual abuse. It is also for individuals who are experiencing complex intergenerational trauma, addiction, mental health concerns, emotion dysregulation and other related symptoms of trauma.


Workshops Trainer:



Susan Wenzel is an author, relationship and certified sex- therapist. She is also a suicide and trauma intervention trainer with years of experience working with individuals and families regarding their relationships, personal growth, mental health, sexuality, and trauma. She is a clinical onboard therapist with Jordan's Principles. She is also a continuing education credits provider for “The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counsellors, and Therapists” and a registered member of “The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapist Association.”


The workshop focuses on learning practical skills to hold space and become an ally for survivors of complex trauma and abuse in First Nation Communities. The participants will receive certificates for attendance.
