President's Parley

Michael Fortune,

TTC Board of Directors President

Well, 2021 is wrapping up and 1/3 of the current board will be turning over. Along with myself, Tim Warren and Patti Youngren have finished their three-year terms. Tim and Patti have been excellent to work with and have done a tremendous job in making sure the club not only navigated through this ongoing pandemic but also remained in a very good financial and operational position. Please be sure to thank them for their service when you see them around the club.

In January, new board members Marsha Feldman, Charles Wickens, and Rebecca Yu will start their three-year terms. It would be also great to thank them for stepping up into these leadership positions. We did have one board member leave who had one more year left. Donna Keim, recent board member and president, asked if she could rejoin the board for this upcoming year and she was unanimously approved for this position at our December meeting. Thank you Donna.

Also discussed at the December meeting were plans to start the installation of insulation to both buildings 1 and 2 as early as February. Hunter can perhaps provide more details on continue reading

Welcome to 2022, everyone! We're excited about what the new year has in store around the club. Particularly, we're keeping our fingers crossed that we get closer to the end of this pandemic. The biggest change you'll see this year is the insulation project--though the ink is not quite dry on the paperwork yet, this project will insulate on the interior of both indoor court buildings, and include a reflective vinyl sports covering for a uniform appearance. This project will modernize the look of both buildings, and should allow us to save a bit of money monthly on lighting costs. The sound dampening will be noticeable, too, particularly in courts 4-6 (where it notoriously loud and "boomy"). We'll keep an eye on the temperature of the buildings over the course of this winter and next, to see if installation of a heating source would help to keep the buildings more temperate during the winter months. The hope is that this will not be needed.

Work is currently projected to start during the second half of February (that could be delayed with the past week's weather), and it will impact court availability for about two weeks--courts will be available to use, but we anticipate 2-3 courts will be shut down at a time for storage and safety concerns.

On the membership side of things, we're enjoying membership numbers as high as I've seen since I've been at Timberhill. Likewise, the lesson program has been running at capacity since the spring of 2020, with waiting lists for group and private lessons alike. We're starting the process of adding another teaching pro to our staff, and I'll keep everyone updated as things develop on that front.

The last item I'll mention is that in the next couple of months, we'll be transitioning our court bookings from timberhillbookings.com to RacquetDesk (aka 10sPortal). This should be a fairly seamless transition--our rules will stay the same, and the format and process of booking courts will look very similar to what the user currently sees. The benefits are that it will eliminate an extra website (and username/password) from the menu of stuff a member currently uses. Everyone has a RacquetDesk account currently--it's your current 10sPortal account. This will put everything in one place, behind one username/password: court bookings, your club profile (address/phone/etc.), your billing information, etc. Since most players don't use all of these features, it is easy to customize your "landing page" so the first thing you see when you log in is court bookings. Did I mention that there will be an app, too? We'll have a customized Timberhill app that will give you quicker access to all this stuff than you have now, or you can continue to log in on your web browser. The one change that will happen as a result of this is that we will discourage members from sharing their RacquetDesk username/password with other members. That currently happens with some groups, but since you'll have more sensitive data behind your password on the RacquetDesk platform (credit card info, profile editing, etc.), it would not be advisable to share your credentials. Anyway, look for more details as we get into February. We'll have a comprehensive education effort to help everyone make the change, and it should go smoothly.

See you out on the courts!
