Council Member Althea Stevens Hosts District 16 Nonprofit Roundtable with Mayor Mamdani to Strengthen Partnerships and Advance Community Solutions

BRONX, NY (July 8, 2026) — New York City Council Member Althea V. Stevens welcomed New York City Mayor Mamdani, the Mayor's Office of Nonprofit Services, and nonprofit leaders from across District 16 for a collaborative roundtable discussion focused on strengthening partnerships, increasing transparency, and advancing resources for Bronx communities.

The roundtable brought together organizations serving youth, families, seniors, immigrants, and vulnerable populations to engage directly with city leadership on the challenges and opportunities facing the nonprofit sector.

"Nonprofits are the frontline of our communities," said Council Member Althea Stevens.

"They are often the first to respond when families need support, whether it's childcare, housing, food security, youth programming, legal services, or mental health resources. It is our responsibility as government to ensure they have the tools, information, and partnerships necessary to continue serving our residents.

Since taking office, Council Member Stevens has convened recurring nonprofit roundtables to create a collaborative space where providers can exchange best practices, learn about government resources, and build stronger relationships with one another. Previous convenings have featured presentations from the Mayor's Office of Contracts, the Mayor's Office of Nonprofit Services, and the New York City Comptroller's Office to improve understanding of the city's contracting process and increase transparency.

This year's discussion continued those efforts while highlighting new opportunities to connect nonprofit organizations with corporate partners to expand access to resources, expertise, and long-term investments that strengthen community impact.

Participants also discussed the ongoing needs of immigrant communities throughout District 16, including concerns surrounding changing federal immigration policies and the importance of ensuring organizations have the information and support necessary to continue serving vulnerable New Yorkers.

Mayor Mamdani joined the discussion to hear directly from local providers about the challenges they face and opportunities for stronger collaboration between City Hall and community-based organizations.

Organizations participating in the roundtable included Children's Rescue Fund, Astor Services, South Bronx United, Muslim Community Network, Women's Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDco), New Destiny Housing, Renaissance Youth Center, Hunger Free America, New Settlement, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, SCAN-Harbor, Afri-kana, Bronx Defenders, Claremont Community Center, and AimHigh.

Council Member Stevens closed the discussion by encouraging providers to continue sharing knowledge, resources, and opportunities.

Council Member Stevens concluded the roundtable by reaffirming her commitment to strengthening partnerships among nonprofit organizations, city agencies, philanthropic institutions, and the private sector. She emphasized that these ongoing conversations are part of a broader effort to build lasting collaborations that create more equitable solutions, expand access to resources, and address the unique needs of District 16 residents. The roundtable reflects her continued commitment to ensuring that community-based organizations have the support, connections, and opportunities needed to advance meaningful and lasting change across the Bronx.
