Burlington Board of Health applies for MRC NACCHO ORA Grant 2025

The Town of Burlington Board of Health is excited to announce that we will be applying for the 2025 Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) Operational Readiness Awards (ORA) grant through the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). NACCHO is an organization that works to advocate for local health departments.

The Burlington Volunteer Reserve Corps (BVRC) will focus this project on training the community to respond during an emergency.  By taking care of themselves they may also be able to assist neighbors in need through a “Being Neighborly” system.  This will offer funding to MRC units to enhance their emergency response capabilities.

“If selected, we will use the funds to offer emergency preparedness training and provide equipment to residents."- Michael Greene, Associate Director at the Town of Burlington Board of Health.

The BVRC will identify community members and invite them to participate in emergency preparedness training with our BVRC members.  This presentation will highlight the needs residents face during a disaster event.  The Board of Health, in conjunction with the BVRC, will supply the participants with a “Starter” emergency kit consisting of basic emergency items such as a small first aid kit, whistle, matches, hand crank radio, and possibly other items as funding permits.

This is all to increase emergency preparedness but also strengthen neighborhood bonds.  We don't always need an emergency to help out a neighbor in need!
