Constriction Sites. Stormwater Pollution, and You:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

To comply with IPA regulations, any construction site greater than one acre must develop and implement a Stormwater Pollution Prevention

Plan. This plan describes the steps the contractor will follow to prevent loose soil from leaving the site and ending up in our rivers.

Unfortunately, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency does not have the resources to adequately review these plans or monitor sites

to ensure that plans are followed. It is up to local citizens to enforce these laws. If you are concerned about runoff from a construction

site, request a copy of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan from the developer. These documents must be made available

to citizens.

Contact your city officials and local EPA field office to report violations.

Individuals Can Make A Difference

By Jim Jozwiak

As stream fishermen, we usually get a first hand (down and dirty) look at our river environment. As opposed to driving by or over the water as most people do we're actually standing in it...
