Fore the Future: Supporting Florida's families one round at a time

Our first Golf Invitational aims to enhance education, training, and career readiness for child welfare workers serving Florida’s children and families. This event is more than a fundraiser—it’s a chance to foster resilience, confidence, and community through sport.

As one of Florida’s Top 30 Golf Courses in 2023, the Seminole Legacy Golf Club course stretches 7,800 yards, featuring two ranges and a new 12-hole par three course for the golf teams, making it the best place to test your skills, no matter your age or abilities.

10% of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Institute's annual service partner. This year, the Institute is supporting the Oasis Center for Women & Girls in Tallahassee.

Be part of a meaningful day on the green where golf meets purpose.

FICW Golf Invitational at Seminole Legacy

The Institute is excited to partner with Tom Shea, PGA, on the FICW Golf Invitational.

Tom Shea is a lifelong golf professional whose personal journey through the foster care system has shaped his deep commitment to supporting vulnerable children. After entering foster care at age eight, Shea found stability, mentorship, and a sense of belonging through his adoptive family and the game of golf—a gift he credits with changing the trajectory of his life.

Today, Shea channels that experience into meaningful child‑welfare and charitable work. He has long been actively involved with organizations that support foster youth, and most recently, has partners with the Institute to support the child welfare workforce. His professional platform in the golf community allows him to give back, using the sport as a tool to create opportunities, confidence, and connection for young people facing hardships.

Tournament Format

Shotgun Start + Scramble

Our tournament uses a shotgun start, which means all teams begin play simultaneously, each starting on a different hole. This allows everyone to enjoy the full 18‑hole experience and finish around the same time so we can move into awards, reception, and silent auction together.

We will play a 4‑Person Scramble, the most fun and fast‑moving format for mixed‑skill groups.

Here’s how it works:

  • Every player hits a tee shot.
  • The team selects the best shot, and all players move their balls to that spot.
  • The team continues choosing the best shot after each stroke until the ball is holed.
  • Only one team score per hole is recorded.
