Celebrating a Memphis Music Legend: Tribute Concert to Honor James Griffin and Bread

For Immediate Release

TOAST - The Ultimate Bread Experience Announces Special Tribute Concert Honoring Memphis Native Jimmy Griffin at The Cannon Center

Memphis, TN – April 16, 2025 – TOAST, the premier tribute band dedicated to honoring the legendary 1970s soft rock group Bread, proudly announces a special tribute performance at The Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Memphis, TN, scheduled for Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 7:00 PM. This concert not only celebrates Bread’s timeless music but also pays special homage to Memphis native and Bread co-founder James Arthur “Jimmy” Griffin.

Bread rose to prominence in the early 1970s, captivating audiences worldwide with unforgettable hits like "Make It With You," "Baby I'm-a Want You," "Everything I Own," and "If." Known for their mellow melodies, sophisticated harmonies, and deeply resonant lyrics, Bread defined the soft rock genre and continues to be cherished by generations of music lovers.

This special tribute performance by TOAST holds particular significance as it honors the late, great Jimmy Griffin, a beloved figure in music history who helped shape Bread's iconic sound. Griffin, who passed away in 2005 after battling cancer, was instrumental in the band's musical direction, contributing his exceptional vocals and distinguished guitar skills. While he did not always serve as the lead vocalist—this role often fell to David Gates—Griffin’s artistic impact was profound and lasting.

Aside from his success with Bread, Griffin was an accomplished songwriter whose co-writing credits include "For All We Know," performed by The Carpenters, which earned an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Griffin also penned notable country hits such as Conway Twitty’s "Who’s Gonna Know" and Restless Heart’s "You Can Depend On Me."

Close friends and musical contemporaries praised Griffin’s gentle nature and unique talent. John Ford Coley remembered him as a genuinely kind person whose musical gift transcended genres: "Jimmy could have looked at you and said, 'I hate your guts,' and it would have sounded like, 'How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.'" Terry Sylvester of The Hollies praised Griffin's voice as "amazing," noting that he never lost the exceptional quality that endeared him to audiences and fellow musicians alike.

TOAST is renowned for their dedication to authentically capturing Bread’s original sound, delivering meticulously crafted performances that fans describe as deeply moving and powerfully nostalgic. Audiences attending the Memphis tribute can anticipate a heartfelt evening filled with emotional performances and the enduring hits that defined an era.
