Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia

UUCC embodies love in action.

We nurture spirits, build community, and act for justice.

Though our congregation is not defined by four walls, we have called Owen Brown Interfaith Center our home for forty years.

As Unitarian Universalists we are more interested in embodying love in the world than arguing over specific beliefs. We are a spiritual community with a call to love, justice, and reason, without one central creed.

multi-generational group is actively silly during worship

In our congregation you will likely meet as many agnostics, atheists, humanists as you will people with Christian and Jewish backgrounds.

We recognize that creating the Beloved Community envision by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is up to all of us, that “all of us need all of us to make it“, that loving the hell out of the world is a full-time job, and that, wherever else it may be, salvation is most readily experienced among friends and in community.

Ways to get involved

Join us on Sundays at 10am for worship

We gather for multi-platform Sunday service each week. You can join us in-person at Owen Brown Interfaith Center at 7462 Cradlerock Way or check us out virtually. Our greeters will be happy to meet you and help you get connected.

UUCC also offers a less formal, more wiggly, multi-generational 30 minute service at 9AM.

We understand that showing up in a new place can be intimidating or even scary, especially if you have had bad or possibly traumatic experiences in religious spaces before. We are here to help. If you would like to connect with a member of our community before joining us on a Sunday morning, contact Sara, our Director of Communications & Group Connections.

Parents Supporting

LGBTQIA+ Kids Forum

November 2 at 4:30PM

We know that creating a safe, affirming home has enormous impact in the lives of LGBTQIA+ young people and we also know that parenting these kids we love presents a whole new set of challenges. In this moment, when the community is facing seemingly insurmountable challenges, what is it that your family needs? What does support look like for you as a parent? What does community look like for your rainbow kiddos and their siblings?

Join us for a conversation to answer these questions as we plan for a new LGBTQIA+ small group ministry focused on families.

We will send location information closer to the date. The forum overlaps with our Board Games & Potluck Night, a perfect chance to connect with other fun at UUCC!

Transgender Day of Remembrance

November 20 at 6PM

In this reflective service we will honor the memory of those whose lives have been lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. The in-person service at Owen Brown Interfaith Center offers the community and allies to come together for support and fellowship. A short reception will follow the service.

How Unitarian Universalists love our LGBTQIA+ siblings

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Columbia is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations (UUA). The UUA is the central organization for the Unitarian Universalist (UU) religious movement in the United States, with a mission to equip congregations for health and vitality, to support and train lay and professional leaders, and to advance Unitarian Universalist values in the world.

Embracing Transgender, Nonbinary, Intersex and Gender Diverse People is a Fundamental Expression of UU Religious Values

"On behalf of the member congregations and communities of the UUA, we proclaim that our principles and values unequivocally commit our faith to honor and celebrate the full spectrum of gender identity and expression."

At the 2024 UUA General Assembly a Business Resolution that embracing transgender, nonbinary, intersex, and gender-diverse people was passed with overwhelming supporting. Business resolutions set the UUA’s core commitment; once passed, they become part of the UUA’s work. The 2024 business resolution was the first one adopted by UUs in support of transgender equity, although other statements of support passed in prior assemblies.

Action to Protect LGBTQ+ Children from Conversion Therapy

The Unitarian Universalist Association joined an amicus curiae brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold a Colorado law that bans conversion therapy for children under 18.

UUA Condemns Supreme Court Ruling on Youth Gender-Affirming Care

Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s June 2025  decision to allow states to ban access to gender-affirming care for trans youth, president Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt released a statement.
