June 13th UPDATE!!!!

We are extending the Vajrasattva practice all the way through the end of the retreat!

In consultation with Ven. Lingtrul Rinpoche, we have decided to extend the Vajrasattva practice all the way through the full nine days of this retreat and to reschedule the Chimed Sok Tig portion for a later date. Rinpoche feels the Dorsem Lama Chopa Vajrasattva practice we are doing right now is extremely beneficial at this time for everyone, himself included, and that it would be a very great blessing to continue this practice for the entire nine days of this retreat.

A Special Note About the Chimed Sok Tig Text:

Although we are postponing this practice to a later date, if you have purchased the text, we would like to encourage you to read the liturgy! The Chimed Sok Tig text is amazingly complete and detailed. The practice is so long because it contains all the details you need to understand this kind of generation stage practice. If you take the time to simply read the liturgy in English, you will learn and better understand the stages of generating the deity (which apply to the Vajrasattva practice, too!), what the various offerings mean, the stages of empowerment and their meanings, the many aspects of tsog offerings, cheddo, tenma, drelwa, and so on--so much of the liturgy is an incredibly rich explanation of every aspect of this kind of practice. So if you have the text, we hope you will enjoy reading the English translation.

About this Retreat:

At His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche's request, Ven. Gyatrul Rinpoche promised to carry out the annual Vajrasattva Retreat each year—and as students of Gyatrul Rinpoche, we, in turn, have the samaya to ensure that this retreat occurs at Tashi Choling each year. For many years, the Tashi Choling sangha has kept this commitment. Although this year, we are unable to have people come to Tashi Choling due to the ongoing pandemic situation, we continue to maintain our samaya through the miracle of the Internet and Zoom video-conferencing!

The Vajrasattva Retreat:

Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, Jigdral Yeshe Dorje placed the volume of his "Vajrasattva as the Lama" scripture on Gyatrul Rinpoche's head and commanded him: "This is your special practice. You and all your students must uphold it!"

Thereafter, this annual 10-day retreat was established at Tashi Choling and has been held yearly since 1997.

The Chimed Sok Tig Retreat:

Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, Jigdral Yeshe Dorje said that, through his own daily practice of this sadhana and practice in the longevity cave of Maratika, five years were added to his life. Venerable Gyatrul Rinpoche received the empowerment and transmission for this practice from His Holiness and was encouraged by the Dudjom Sangyum to take this as one of his main practices, which he has done for many years.
