From Construction to CDL: Training for an In-Demand Future with Support from OhioMeansJobs Stark & Tuscarawas Counties
At 49, John knew it was time for a change. After years of roofing and siding homes, the physical demands of the job were adding up—and as an independent contractor, steady income often depended on the weather. With a household of six to support, John turned to workforce-funded training through OhioMeansJobs Stark & Tuscarawas Counties to take the next step. John earned his CDL-A and tanker endorsement through training at American Professional (now Buckeye Career Center), opening the door to a new career path. Within 30 days of graduation, he was hired as a Tanker Driver with Myers Well Service, earning $31 per hour plus overtime. Today, John is on track to earn six figures for the first time in his life. His story shows that investing in career transitions can create life-changing opportunities for experienced workers ready for their next chapter.
