Happy Pride!

I’m proud to celebrate LGBTQ+ rights, expansive gender expression and the freedom to love and form our families. Pride Month was kicked off at City Hall by raising the Pride Flag as a symbol for justice. It’s important to remember that Pride is not just a celebration and parade — it is an act of resistance. Let’s continue to be united in pride as we value all members of our community, and affirm the right of everyone to have their bodily autonomy, and self-determination honored.

District 6 Budget Town Hall Update

Thank you to everyone who participated in person at the D6 Budget Town Hall and engaged the City’s Budget Process. For those of you who attended online, I appreciate your patience bearing with my office through the audio and technical issues. We plan to improve on our efforts hosting hybrid meetings in the future. In the meantime, you are encouraged to continue learning more about the Mayor’s Proposed Two-Year Budget to close an historic $360 million deficit without layoffs, streamline City services, and make much-needed investments in key community priorities. The budget process culminates at the end of the month when the City Council adopts the final budget, which establishes a 2-year spending plan. Please stay involved in upcoming City Council meetings.

Juneteenth

Celebrating the Journey of Justice, Resilience, and Progress

On June 19,1865 Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas — two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation — with news that the enslaved were now free. However, we know many of those enslaved continued to be denied their freedom, even while legally emancipated. Juneteenth is a day that honors the spirit of Black freedom and Black resistance. It moves us one step of an ongoing journey to collective freedom. The Raising of the Juneteenth Flag will be Monday, June, 12 at 11am at City Hall. As we continue celebrating Liberation Month, here is what's happening at Liberation Park this weekend.

Good Neighbors Stay Safe

Thank you to College Park and Maxwell Park residents for meeting with me and my staff earlier this year to report concerns about possible stolen cars and chop shop activity in the neighborhood. Your efforts to look out for each other and report suspicious activity is key to how we can prevent and stop crime. Due to your diligence Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office recently took action and tow trucks were busy for hours removing car parts, dismantled vehicles, illegally parked cars, and abandoned trucks. Please continue to reach out to my office and work together to keep each other safe.
